Glasgow - The Student City
A pint of T please
Time for a bit of a switch up in locations we are headed to a
city on home soil, a place I’ve lived for the past 3 years as a student and I think deserves
a mention.
Glasgow.
I’ll start of with a story about my first day as a student in the city
where I headed off to a local bar to grab a pint and explore the city.
The local beer in Scotland is Tennents and the logo on the
pump is a massive red T.
Seeing this I think my subconscious thought I know a way I
can really lean into the English southerner stereo type.
“Alright pal what can I get for ya.”
“Alright mate I’ll have a pint of T please.”
“Do you want sugar with that.”
I had no idea what he was talking about, I just saw a look
of disgust and slowly clocked what I’d asked him for.
3 years on and I’ve gotten used to the lingo but my Scottish
accent still needs a bit of work.
The city is full of culture with galleries, music venues,
bars and restaurants on every corner.
Theres also a fair few kebab shops for some end of the night
grub. Hajar Shwarma is a personal favourite.
The cities west end is super aesthetic with lots of little
independent cafes, lovely architecture and a few lovely parks that you can go
for a stroll in to get away from the busy town centre.
It’s definitely an area I would recommend to people coming
to stay for a few nights.
The city centre is a lot more commercial and busier with lots
of shops on Sauchiehall and Buchanan Street to fill ya day.
And the merchant city which is where I stay and is full of
your nice restaurants, Irish pubs and karaoke bars but I wouldn’t be able to
tell you where they are…
Overall rating: 4/5
I think it’s a great city especially for a students or a
good night out and I would definitely recommend to anyone interested. Just make
sure you check the forecast before you book.
Oh yeah and here’s us with our pints of Tea (no sugar).
